Overview

The Temerlin Advertising Institute (TAI), named after Liener Temerlin – an icon of the Dallas advertising industry – is an endowed advertising program. The provides training in global, social, cultural and technological sensitivity to give students the understanding needed to engage consumers in brand conversations.

In addition to enhancing their understanding of traditional advertising theory and practice, students will learn about the use of cultural intelligence, consumer insights, social media, cause marketing, and data analytics as a means to create meaningful brands for customers.

The Master of Arts in advertising is a flexible, industry-focused graduate program for full- and part-time students who want to develop their knowledge and skills for a successful career in advertising. Yes, according to the , overall employment of advertising, promotions and marketing managers is projected to grow six percent from 2024 to 2034, faster than the average for all occupations. The median annual wage for advertising and promotions managers was $126,960 in May 2024, and the median annual wage for marketing managers was $161,030 in May 2024.

Individuals graduating from this program will go on to work, either domestically or internationally, in advertising agencies as account executives, media strategists, research analysts or account planners. A graduate of the institute will also be attractive to corporate marketing departments, media organizations, marketing firms, the event management field, branded entertainment, advergaming, motion picture marketing and nonprofit organizations.

Consideration for scholarships (need-based and merit-based) is only available for full-time M.A. applicants. Scholarship awards will be determined by reviewing the overall quality of your application. Submitting strong GRE or GMAT scores is optional but adds information which will enhance the quality of your application. Limited number of research/teaching assistantships are also available to qualified M.A. applicants. The value of a 20-hour research/teaching assistantship can amount up to $13,000 per academic year (fall plus spring semester). These competitive awards significantly reduce the cost of the program. Thanks to our location in a top-four media market, our students secure internships and full-time positions with top agencies including TRG, The Marketing Arm, Firehouse, Slingshot, Publicis, Cheil, The Loomis Agency, LERMA, Moroch and Dieste, just to name a few. 

Admission to the graduate program in advertising is very selective. Applicants will be expected to have an excellent undergraduate record in advertising or a related field. Previous work experience is desirable but not required. Applicants from other disciplines will be considered provided they can show a keen interest in pursuing a career in advertising. Prerequisite coursework (or self-study with credit by examination) may be required depending on your knowledge and/or professional experience with advertising, research methods, and media planning. Application to the Temerlin Advertising Institute is required for consideration.
